There were a lot of smiles at White Auditorium on Sunday, and with good reason as Emporia High held commencement activities for its outgoing senior class.
Mariana Lara gave the senior address, telling her fellow graduates they aren’t alone and she will do what they can to support them.
Senior Gilberto Aguilera gave the welcome address. Before the ceremony, he had some advice for his fellow graduates.
This was the last weekend for commencement activities at either the high school or college level across the KVOE listening area. Hamilton had its commencement ceremonies Saturday, while Council Grove had its graduation activities Sunday.
While all the graduation ceremonies are done, underclass students are continuing for several area districts, including Emporia.
*Aside from students at Maynard, whose last day is Wednesday, the last day for USD 253 Emporia is Thursday. There will be staggered dismissal times, with Middle School sixth-graders dismissing at 11:17 am, Middle School seventh and eighth graders dismissing at 11:22 am along with students at Emporia High. Elementary school students will be let out at 11:46 am.
*USD 252 Southern Lyon County and USD 417 Morris County have their last days of class Tuesday.
*USD 386 Madison-Virgil lets out Thursday
North Lyon County, Lebo-Waverly, Burlington, Southern Coffey County, Chase County, Eureka, Osage City and Marais des Cygnes Valley have all concluded their class schedules for the academic year.
