Another good start and bad finish for the Kansas City Royals Monday night in a 9-5 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Royals scored 4 runs in the first inning highlighted by solo home runs by Whit Merrifield, Bobby Witt Jr, and Hunter Dozier.
Arizona answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st.
The Royals added a run in the 2nd inning. Whit Merrifield stole 2nd and would score on two throwing errors and that was all the scoring the Royals would produce. They did strand 13 base runners and were 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position.
Zack Greinke took the loss giving up 5 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts in less than 4 innings of work.
The Royals and Diamondbacks play again tonight. Jonathan Heasley will be the starting pitcher for the Royals. The first pitch is set for 8:40 pm. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM beginning at 8 pm.
