The Memorial Day weekend signals the start of boating season for many people, and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks says boaters can go online to register their vessels.
Vessels can be registered online through www.gooutdoorskansas.com. In-person options, including any state park office, regional office or operations office, are also available.
All motor-powered vessels, regardless of the fuel, are required to be registered with the state. Sail-powered boats also need to be registered.
Besides registration, Wildlife and Parks says boats need fire extinguishers, sound-producing devices, skier-down flags, navigational lights and Coast Guard-approved floatation devices.
