It started with chants…
…and ended with calls for action.
A quickly-organized protest against gun violence took place at Emporia State’s Kellogg Circle on Friday, three days after a teenaged gunman killed 19 students and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas. Co-organizer Jack Anderson, an Emporia State student, says nothing has been done at the federal level to protect students and staff.
ESU Professor Amy Sage Webb read two poems and the lyrics from Bob Dylan’s “Blowing in the Wind.”
60th District House candidate Mic McGuire urged those attending to channel their anger into meaningful solutions.
Students organized the event with the support of Students Demand Action and Moms Demand Action. About 50 people attended, including college and high school students, Emporia State faculty and community members.
