For the 20th year, the Jones Aquatic Center is open for the summer.
The pool opened to the public Memorial Day and welcomed hundreds of families throughout the day despite a few of the pool’s regular amenities not being up and running at this time. It was announced Saturday by the city of Emporia that due to maintenance delays the lazy river, water slide and splash pad will be closed indefinitely.
JAC Supervisor Jennifer Wegener says there was still a lot of excitement amongst her and her staff Monday.
Wegener says the excitement was extra high as this is the 20th anniversary of the pool’s opening back in May of 2002. To commemorate the 20th anniversary, the pool will be hosting several special events throughout the summer leading up to a birthday celebration on Jul. 30.
Pool hours are 1 to 6 pm Monday through Sunday. Admission is $3 for residents ages 4-15 and $5 for residents ages 16 and up. Residents can also buy punch cards to get admission at a discount.
