This is a busy summer for blood donation drives.
The American Red Cross Central Plains Division has numerous opportunities for residents to give blood between now and mid-August. On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia recently, spokesperson Susan Faler said there are reasons why there are 10 drives currently on the calendar — just in Emporia — between now and Aug. 10.
Faler says the blood drives are coming at a time when the local blood supply is actually better than it has been in a long time, but she says that situation could reverse quickly and it doesn’t take long for the Red Cross to revert back to an urgent or critical need for blood.
For more information about blood drives or to set up an appointment, call 800-RED CROSS or go online to www.redcrossblood.org. Residents donating blood are still encouraged to set up appointments and fil out pre-appointment paperwork online by downloading the RapidPass mobile app.
