The Cleveland Guardians outscored the Kansas City Royals 7-3 Monday night.
Twice the Royals would tie the game. Emmanuel Rivera hit a solo home run in the 3rd inning to tie the game at 1.
The Royals tied the game at 3 with 2 runs in the 8th on a Whit Merrifield double and an Andrew Benintendi double.
The Guardians broke the tie by scoring 4 runs, 3 on a home run, in the bottom of the 8th to earn the win.
The Royals and Guardians play again Tuesday night. Daniel Lynch will be the starting pitcher for the Royals with the first pitch at 5:10 pm.
The Royals did make several roster moves Monday.
The Royals placed Zack Greinke on the 15-day injured list with a strained forearm.
They recalled pitcher Foster Griffin from Omaha.
They reinstated outfielder Kyle Isbel from the injured list and sent Brewer Hicklen back to Omaha.
They also placed pitchers Brad Peacock and Gabe Speier on the Covid 19 injured list and called up Arodys Vizcaino and Jose Cuas.
