Appropriation requests continue to come before Lyon County Commissioners with the 2023 budget process now underway.
Thursday morning, Hetlinger Developmental Services Director Trudy Hutchinson presented a request of $37,000 for community developmental disability organization operations. According to Hutchinson CDDO operations are separate from normal day-to-day provider services.
Thursday’s request is a $500 increase from the agency’s 2022 request and the first increase request from Hetlinger since 2018. Hutchinson says the increase, while modest, is necessary due to the increase in costs being seen across the nation in recent months.
Thursday’s request comes a day after two allocation requests from Brian Rees of the Lyon County Extension Office and Lyon County History Center Director Greg Jordan. Rees did not divulge the full allocation being sought, however, he tells KVOE News it is a roughly five percent increase over the 2022 request.
Like Hutchinson, Rees says the increase comes due to the rising cost of “doing business.”
Jordan is seeking an allocation of $120,000, a $2,000 increase over the 2022 request with the majority of funds going to cover salaries, utilities and insurance. The request comes as visitations to the history center continue to steadily increase.
Commissioners have taken all requests under consideration with more requests set to come in the next few weeks.
In other business, commissioners approved the 2022 certification of values presented by Lyon County Appraiser Ryan Janzen and received the 2021 Lyon County Engineer’s review from County Engineer Chip Woods.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene next Wednesday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse for a study meeting.
