The 84th annual Flint Hills Rodeo is off to a great start.
Spokesman Dow Wilson says Thursday night’s kickoff went extremely well and the turnout was even bigger than last year’s. He tells KVOE News organizers have received nothing but positive feedback which has them excited for the next two days of rodeo action.
More than 300 competitors are taking part in this year’s rodeo and organizers have managed to secure two of the best rodeo performers in the country to help keep the crowd entertained. Rider Kiesner and Bethany Iles put on a tremendous show featuring trick riding, roping and so much more Thursday.
Wilson says organizers very rarely have to go looking for performers and competitors as the rodeo has a tremendous reputation across the nation. He credits that to the commitment of their volunteers and the local area.
Night two activities begin at 5 pm Friday with the trade show followed by the kid’s stick rodeo which kicks off at 6 pm before the evening’s main event at 8 pm. A Cowboy and Cowgirl dance is scheduled to begin at 10 pm.
Friday is Military Appreciation Night meaning all active and retired military personnel will receive free admission with a military I.D.
The rodeo’s final day will begin Saturday afternoon with a parade at 2 pm in Strong City followed by the trade show at 5 pm, stick horse rodeo at 6 pm, the final performance at 8 pm and another cowboy and cowgirl dance at 10 pm.
