Lyon County is into its fourth round of flooding in as many weeks.
Flooding started on the Cottonwood at Cottonwood Falls and Plymouth by Sunday afternoon, with flooding underway along the Cottonwood at Emporia since Sunday night. All three gauges are in flood warnings, as is the Neosho at Neosho Rapids.
For the Cottonwood at Emporia, the warning continues now until Thursday afternoon. The river was at 21.49 feet early Monday, above flood stage of 20 feet. It should crest at 23.4 feet Tuesday morning and go below flood stage Wednesday night.
The warning for the Cottonwood at Plymouth goes until 7 pm Tuesday. The river is at 32.09 feet, above flood stage of 32 but below a tentative crest of 32.26 feet. The Weather Service says it could rise slightly to 32.3 feet before noon Monday and go below flood stage early Tuesday.
The warning for the Cottonwood at Cottonwood Falls continues until late Tuesday morning. The latest reports had the river at 9.5 feet, above a recently-revised crest of 9.3 feet. It could go below flood stage Monday evening.
The warning for the Neosho at Neosho Rapids goes until Thursday morning. The river is at 21.36 feet, below flood stage of 22 feet. The river is set to crest at 24 feet early Tuesday morning and stay in flood until Wednesday afternoon.
Several roads and intersections remain closed from our third round of flooding last week. County Engineer Chip Woods says road repairs have been a constant issue for his crews for close to a month. Making matters worse? Woods says people are ignoring the barricades, either moving them, running them over or stealing them.
