Emporia’s major waterline replacement projects continue for the short term.
On West Sixth between Lincoln and Woodland, City Engineer Jim Ubert says work is underway to connect business and residential areas on the south side of the street.
Eastbound traffic is down to one lane while Phase 2 continues, with westbound traffic using two lanes. That configuration will reverse when work shifts to the northbound side of Sixth.
On West 12th between Chestnut and Grand, the contractor is handling service connections for Newman Regional Health and Emporia Place.
Next up is connecting the 12th and Chestnut intersection, which will close the intersection for up to two weeks, weather permitting. That work may not start until next week and Ubert says the plan for closing Chestnut on the north and south sides will be firmed up soon.
