The filing deadline for local races passed earlier this month. The filing deadline for state offices passed Friday, and there will be a primary challenge for one man representing parts of Lyon County in the Kansas House of Representatives.
76th District Representative Eric Smith is being challenged by fellow Republican Robert Harmon for the second straight election cycle. The winner faces Olpe resident Chuck Torres, who filed Friday as a Democrat.
Meanwhile, 13th District Representative Joe Newland, a Republican, does not have a challenger in either party. The 13th District is being expanded to cover southwest Lyon County and all of Chase County after redistricting earlier this year.
60th District Representative Mark Schreiber, a Republican, will have a general election challenge from Democrat Mic McGuire.
