Hunter Dozier, Bobby Witt Jr, and Michael A Taylor combined for nine hits, but that wasn’t enough to push the Kansas City Royals past Baltimore on Sunday.
The Orioles won 10-7, earning a split in the four-game series. Royals starter Brad Keller didn’t make it out of the second inning, giving up five runs on seven hits — including three home runs — in 1.2 innings of work. Royals manager Mike Matheny says things went downhill early.
Dozier, Witt, and Taylor all homered for the Royals, who trailed at one point 7-0 before making the game close late.
The Royals now make a West Coast run this week, starting with a three-game series in San Francisco. Brady Singer starts for the Royals. The first pitch is at 8:45 pm on 14 KVOE and 96.9 FM, coverage begins at 8 pm.
The Royals did make a roster move Sunday.
They reinstated pitcher Amir Garrett from the injured list and recalled from his rehab assignment at Omaha.
They sent pitcher Angel Zerpa back to Omaha.
