Osage County Sheriff Chris Wells says a Lawrence man has been arrested on suspicion of child rape and aggravated criminal sodomy.
Wells says the Osage County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by its counterpart in Shawnee County early Monday after a 911 call about a missing 11-year-old girl who was apparently last seen at her Shawnee County home Sunday night. Shawnee County had identified 18-year-old Dominic Knapp of Lawrence as arranging through social media to pick up the girl and take her to Osage County. Contacted while with the girl in Osage County, Knapp reportedly agreed to bring her back around 4 am Monday.
Osage County investigators interviewed Knapp and later jailed him on suspicion of raping a child under age 14 and aggravated sodomy.
The case is still under investigation.
Both Wells and Shawnee County Sheriff Brian Hill encourage parents to speak with their children about internet safety and the issues of sharing information through social media.
