The Emporia Jr Spartan baseball team closed out play in the Emporia Tournament played at the Trusler Sports Complex Sunday.
In their first game of the day the Jr Spartans were defeated by The Barn, a team of players from the Manhattan area, 11-1. The lone Emporia run was a home run by Owen Ruge in the 1st inning.
In their second game, the Jr Spartans were outscored by McPherson 19-5. The game was close for the 1st 6 innings. The Jr Spartans were trailing 6-5 after 4 innings of play. Kael Wagaman drove in 2 runs. Andrew Ruxton was 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
The wheels came off in the top of the 7th when McPherson scored 10 runs.
Emporia Coach Anthony Markowitz said there were some bright spots during the weekend.
The Jr Spartans will play at Andover on Tuesday.
