Emporia Main Street’s tireless work to grow and evolve the local economy has resulted in national recognition from Main Street America.
Emporia Main Street has been designated as an accredited Main Street America program. In order to receive the honor, programs have to meet a series of rigorous performance standards including demonstrating a commitment to “preservation-based economic development and community revitalization.”
Main Street Director Casey Woods says he and his team have worked tirelessly to better the local community and it is a true labor of love.
Woods also commended the city of Emporia and Lyon County governments for being tremendous partners in all of Main Street’s endeavors.
A total of 863 main street programs were recognized as accredited programs this year. Emporia Main Street is no stranger to the accolade as according to Woods Main Street has been accredited nearly every year since the agency’s inception.
There were only a handful of years where Emporia did not receive accreditation, however, Woods says that was due to the dissolution of Kansas Main Street and not due to a lack of meeting accreditation requirements.
