Lyon County Commissioners were looking to reduce the projected mill levy rate for the 2023 budget during a recent study session Wednesday morning.
County Controller Dan Williams presented the commission with the first draft of the budget during that time. Currently, the budget has a projected total of just over $20 million with a projected mill levy rate increase of 3.3 mills.
The increase is 2 mills lower than when commissioners began their study session Wednesday morning. Williams says the drop in increase had partially to do with the commission’s decision Wednesday to reduce its projected use of the 2022 budget from 100 to 98 percent.
In addition to increased allocation requests, Williams says the budget will also be impacted heavily in the coming year by inflationary costs and price hikes which have been seen nationwide for over the past year with the main impact coming from increasing fuel costs. Williams will present the changes made to the proposed budget to commissioners during their regular action session Thursday morning.
That meeting will begin at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers. Work on the budget will continue over the next month.
