Lyon County COVID-19 cases are continuing to trend downward, which is a welcomed sight to both Lyon County Commissioners and Public Health leadership.
During the commission’s weekly action session Thursday morning, Lyon County Public Health Officer Dr. Ladun Oyenuga and Renee Hively presented the monthly Public Health update. The report indicated that COVID case numbers are trending downward as compared to years past.
Hively says while the current data is encouraging, it may not be telling the whole story.
While speaking with KVOE News, Hively announced Public Health will be returning to once-a-week COVID updates until further notice beginning Friday. She says this decision was made as the county continues its transition from pandemic to endemic.
The report comes as both CareArc and Newman Regional Health have begun offering Pfizer and Moderna vaccinations to children 6 months and older.
Separately, commissioners approved two items presented by Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods, the first being a request to cancel a purchase requisition for a 2023 Silverado 2500 pickup truck from Longbine Auto plaza. Commissioners then approved a new purchase request for the same vehicle.
The action comes after Woods presented a revised quote for the purchase from $38,865 to $49,905. Commissioners also received an application presented by Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat for a special event license from Ignacio Velazquez to hold a rodeo at 1223 E. Logan Ave. pending a sales tax id number prior to Aug. 8 2022.
An increase in county mileage reimbursement from 58.5 cents per mile to 62.5 cents per mile, a request to send Lyon County Emergency Communications Supervisor Selena Laaser and CTO Cassandra Grimm to the national APCO Conference in Anaheim, California, in August at a cost not to exceed $4,000 and changes to the county’s Deputy Appraiser Job Description all gained unanimous approval as well.
Lyon County Commissioners are set to reconvene for their weekly action meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
