Wednesday’s open house for the Veterans Administration’s ATLAS pod at the Emporia American Legion Post 5 will have some notable attendees at the state and national level.
VA spokesman Randall Kohl, a guest on KVOE’s Morning Show on Tuesday, says US Senator Jerry Moran and Kansas Governor Laura Kelly are among the dignitaries set to appear. Veterans Administration Eastern Kansas Healthcare System Director Rudy Klopfer, VA Office of Connected Care Chief Officer Dr. Neil Evans and VA Telehealth Services Executive Director Dr. Kevin Galpin are all set to be at the open house — and one veteran who has used the pod will detail his experience.
The open house is coming from 10 am to 12:30 pm Wednesday at the American Legion. Kohl says the pod is designed with one thing in mind: ease of access.
Designed by Philips, the pod was installed early this year and was made available to veterans in March. The 8-foot-by-8-foot enclosed and soundproofed pod is available so veterans can have telemedicine appointments covering a range of topics, including prescriptions, social work, psychology, nutrition and addiction therapy. Pods have enough space for a veteran and his or her caregiver if needed.
