The Kansas City Royals held on for a 7-4 win over the Houston Astros Wednesday night ending the Astros’ 8-game winning streak.
Whit Merrifield hit a home run to lead off the game and Hunter Dozier added a 2-run home run to give the Royals a 3-0 in the 1st inning. Emmanuel Rivera added a solo home run in the 2nd inning to give the Royals a 4-1 lead.
Dozier drove in a run in the 3rd inning with a double to give the Royals a 5-1 lead.
The Astros scored 2 runs in the 4th and a run in the 6th and left the bases loaded in the 6th.
Andrew Benintendi, on his birthday, drove in a run with a double and scored his 3rd run of the game in the 9th.
Brad Keller was the winning pitcher going 5.2 innings giving up 4 runs on 5 hits. 4 relievers combined to shut out the Astros the rest of the way. Scott Barlow earned his 13th save.
The Royals and Astros wrap up their 4 game series this afternoon, Kris Bubic will be the starting pitcher for the Royals with the first pitch set for 1:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.
