Local resident and cancer patient Jennifer Meyers received a strong showing of support from the local community during the second annual Bryan Douglas memorial softball tournament Saturday.
Meyers and her family were named as the beneficiaries of proceeds from the tournament played at Santa Fe Park. Meyers, a mother of five, was diagnosed with stage four uterine cancer last year.
The tournament began last year in memory of Bryan Douglas a local chiropractor and well-known member of the Flint Hills Optimist Club who passed away following a battle with cancer. Lori Douglas, Bryan’s wife, says she knows all too well how difficult this time is for the Meyers family and it was important for her and her family to do all they can to help.
Tournament organizer Gary Loucks says he wishes Douglas could be here to see the impact his memory continues to have on the local community.
Along with the tournament, organizers also sold concessions and put on a silent auction to help raise funds for the Meyers family. Final totals are currently pending.
