With the 2022 primary election less than a month away, there have been rumblings of scattered stealing of political signs. Emporia Police says that activity has been isolated so far this election season.
Emporia Police Capt. Ray Mattas says officers have fielded four reports of stolen signs since June 28, with all the signs lending support to the Value Them Both amendment to the Kansas Constitution. No arrests have been made.
Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch says there have been no reports in Lyon County outside the Emporia city limits so far.
Sign theft is a Class A misdemeanor, with a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.
