With eight replacements on the roster, the Kansas City Royals continued their winning ways in Toronto on Thursday with a 3-1 victory.
The Royals had to call up the players — position players Nate Eaton, Freddy Fermin, Maikel Garcia, Brewer Hicklin, Michael Massey, Nick Pratto and Sebastian Rivero, along with pitcher Angel Zerpa — after 10 players couldn’t travel north of the border because they aren’t vaccinated against COVID-19. Eaton was among the team leaders Thursday night with his first big-league home run.
Boby Witt Junior also homered, his team-leading 13th of the year, and Zerpa threw five innings of one-run ball to get his second win of the year.
The Royals and Blue Jays continue their four-game series from Toronto on Friday. Zach Greinke will start for the Royals. First pitch is at 6:07 pm. We’ll join pregame in progress at 6 pm on 14 KVOE and 96.9 FM.
