Emporia State University is hoping to reverse a decline in enrollment — in part by incentivizing a referral program.
Director of Admissions Lydia Barnhart said the overall Refer a Hornet program has been in place for several years, but the idea of incentivizing the program is a recent addition.
This will rely on community members to step forward — and also alums, according to Alumni Relations Director Tiffany Wilson.
The need to increase enrollment isn’t just with the total enrollment. ESU is also working to increase on-campus enrollment because of its positive impact on businesses in and around Emporia.
Interested recruiters can download a form at www.emporia.edu/referahornet, including contact information for the potential student and the recruiter. Both the Admissions and Alumni relations departments will then reach out — not only to display the university’s interest but to also work them through the enrollment and admissions processes. Prize packages include gift cards from Emporia Main Street and local businesses for recruiters, with a separate drawing for $250 scholarships for incoming students.
Referrals are needed by Aug. 19.
