Emporia’s annual Homegrown Celebration returned to the Emporia Farmer’s Market parking lot Saturday morning.
After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Farmer’s Market Board President Wanda Myers says it was a great sight to see so many people out enjoying the offerings of the market.
Along with a great selection of locally grown foods and products, residents were able to enjoy the 17th annual ESB Financial watermelon contest. From seed spitting to watermelon rolling, ESB President and contest judge Michael Black says all the contestants brought their A-game.
In the watermelon contest, the top watermelon rollers were Lincoln Coltrane, Everett Symonds and Otto Lang. The fastest eaters were Carolina Yeo and Ryan Ponce. The best seed spitter was James Smith.
