Several months ago, Salvation Army then-Lieutenant Mylie Hadden joine KVOE’s Talk of Emporia and mentioned a possible capital campaign for the agency to meet some pressing building needs. Now a captain, Hadden says the Salvation Army needs a significant reconfiguration of its available space.
Hadden says things are in the “dream stage.”
On KVOE’s Morning Show on Wednesday, Hadden says the goal is to have everything in one building.
As to where that building will be, that’s to be determined. Hadden says the goal is to have everything not only in one building, but also on one floor, thus making it easier to load and unload items for the food pantry, among other benefits. Official plans are being developed at this time. The needs assessment phase is underway now, which will be followed by a feasibility assessment “in a few months” to determine just how much community support — mainly financially — is available for this kind of consolidation.
Besides the food pantry and utility assistance, the Salvation Army currently offers the thrift store, social services, children’s programs and church services. For information, call the Salvation Army at 620-342-3093.
