Rainfall turned heavy — briefly — for much of the KVOE listening area Thursday morning.
The KVOE studios picked up 1 inch of rainfall in about an hour between 7-8 am, putting the station at just over 2 inches of rain this week. The heavy rain briefly closed the Mechanic Street underpass, but that reopened around 8 am.
Other totals as of 8:30 am:
*10th and Weaver: 2 inches Thursday
*15th and Prairie: 1.4 inches Thursday
*1100 block Constitution: 1.35 inches Thursday, 2.75 inches this week
*Monterey Drive: 1.5 inches Thursday
*Northwest Emporia: 1.82 inches
*Neosho Rapids: 2 inches Thursday, 2.9 inches this week
*Plymouth: 1.6 inches
*Reading: 1.5 inches
*Saffordville: 1.25 inches
*Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve: 1.46 inches
Area totals are anywhere between 2-6 inches so far this week. Most area locations hadn’t seen any measurable rainfall since early July.
Unfortunately, the rain this week was not enough to stop drought conditions from continuing. In fact, the area along and south of US Highway 56 is now in moderate drought after the entire area was abnormally dry last week. Areas north of US-56 are still abnormally dry.
