Patient referrals are now being accepted for robotic surgical procedures at Newman Regional Health.
The hospital announced Friday that Dr. Bradley Rupp is accepting referrals for laparoscopic minimally invasive surgeries including partial nephrectomies, pyeloplasties and bladder stone removals. Dr. Rupp will perform surgeries using the da Vinci XI robotic surgery system that went online in the hospital earlier this year.
Surgeries will be performed once a month on Tuesdays on an outpatient basis. Patients will then spend a night in the Newman Clinical Decision Unit and can expect to be up and walking within a few hours of the surgery in most cases.
Dr. Rupp has been performing robotic surgeries since 2008 and was one of the first medical professionals to do so. Dr. Rupp assisted in the establishment of the da Vinci program in Topeka and has conducted more than 1,000 robot-assisted surgical procedures.
