The New York Yankees outscored the Kansas City Royals 11-5 Friday night.
The Yankees built a 3-0 lead on home runs by Anthony Rizzo and Aaron Judge.
The Royals rallied scoring 5 runs in the 5th inning highlighted by Salvador Perez’s 3-run home run.
Perez was activated off the injured list before the game.
After a 23-minute rain delay, the Yankees would score 8 runs in the 8th highlighted by an Aaron Judge grand slam.
Judge has now hit 41 home runs this season, tieing the American League record for most home runs before August.
Royals Manager Mike Matheny said the bad overshadowed the good.
The Royals and Yankees play again Saturday afternoon. It’s Old Timers day at Yankee Stadium, Jonathan Heasley will be the starting pitcher for the Royals with the first pitch set for 1:05.
The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM with pregame coverage starting at 12:30 pm.
Bobby Witt Jr. was out of the lineup for a fifth straight game with right hamstring soreness, but Royals Manager Mike Matheny is optimistic Witt will play before the end of the weekend. Third baseman Emmanuel Rivera was optioned to Omaha to make space for Perez.
