Lyon County’s voter official voter turnout was just below 50 percent for the 2022 primary election.
The official turnout came to 47.74 percent according to the results of the official vote canvas conducted by the Lyon County Board of Canvassers Tuesday morning. Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat says there was a grand total of 9,965 ballots cast with 322 provisional ballots.
Of those 322, 225 ballots were counted according to Vopat with 97 deemed ineligible for several reasons.
Vopat tells KVOE News the canvas was a smooth process, but a “tedious” one as well.
With the primary election now in the rearview, Vopat says work is already beginning for the upcoming general election in November. Vopat says the county will not prepare its ballot until after the state’s vote canvas on Sept. 1.
The deadline for voter registration in Lyon County is Oct. 18. Locally, the only major races on the ballot will be for the Lyon County Commission District 1 seat between Ken Duft and Gregg Stair.
Incumbent Republican Eric Smith will be facing Democrat Chuck Torres for the Kansas House of Representatives 76th District. Republican Mark Schreiber will face Democrat Mick McGuire for the House 60th District seat.
