A major federal grant is coming to the Flint Hills Nature Trail north of Emporia.
US Senator Jerry Moran has announced a nearly $25 million grant from the US Department of Transportation to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. This will fund the Flint Hills Trail: Connecting Communities, Cultures and Landscapes project, including drainage improvements, pipes, culverts, bridges, base improvements, limestone surfacing, fences, gates, safety improvements and signage.
This will involve improvements to about 40 miles of the trail and is designed to almost finish the nearly 120-mile trail that goes through Morris, Lyon and Osage counties in the KVOE listening area and goes from central Miami County west to Herington.
