Lyon County will have its second vote canvas in as many weeks Wednesday morning.
Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat will present the results of a recent recount related to the county’s vote for House Concurrent Resolution 5003, the so-called Value Them Both constitutional amendment. Election staff recounted nearly 10,000 ballots Tuesday and Vopat says she cannot disclose the results of the recount until after the canvas.
The Lyon County Board of Canvassers will convene inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers at 9 am.
Lyon County is one of nine counties chosen for the recount after two private citizens offered almost $120,000 total. Results need to be into the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office by Wednesday.
Recounts of constitutional amendments do not have to be statewide. Candidates and voters can request recounts in counties where they dispute the results — if they pay for the additional round of tabulations. Melissa Leavitt of Colby and Mark Gietzen of the Kansas Republican Assembly are spearheading the recount drive.
