The 2022 United Way fundraising campaign is off and rolling.
The campaign officially began Thursday with the Campaign Kickoff and Business After Hours event at the Pressroom in downtown Emporia. This year’s campaign is being overseen by co-chairs Scott and Lisa Hayes.
Scott Hayes says he is nervous and excited for what’s to come. He tells KVOE News they hope to bring in a large sum in donations, however, another major goal for him is to shed a light on the United Way as a whole as opposed to just the campaign.
Unlike years past, this year’s campaign has no goal. United Way CEO Mickey Edwards says there’s a reason for that.
The United Way has a few important events coming up soon on the community calendar, including the third annual food drive which began back in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The drive will take place Sept. 26 at the Bowyer Community Building.

Last year’s campaign raised over $420,000 to support more than 20 community partners across eight counties.
