How to handle disruptive patients was a key talking point at the CareArc Board of Directors meeting Tuesday
Risk Manager Neil Dean says CareArc management realizes some patients may not have anywhere else to go for medical or other forms of care, so the plan is to handle disruptive patients on a case-by-case basis. He says CareArc would face some level of liability if violent patients are allowed to return, but he also says there are different levels of concern — and different levels of response — depending on the situation.
Board attorney Monte Miller also suggested a new provision allowing violent patients to apply for reinstatement after six months, with a decision by the CEO and risk manager.
Dean said procedures were adjusted after concerns from board members, including what constitutes disruptive behavior — listed by Dean in Tuesday’s update as violent, sexual or confrontational incidents. The procedure also says disruptive patients can be banned either for a specific period of time, up to six months, or indefinitely from CareArc.
In other business, CareArc reported a monthly net gain of almost $65,000 in July, well above the $2,600 in the overall budget.
