A mowing accident sent one man to Newman Regional Health with what are being called non-life threatening injuries Friday afternoon.
Emporia Police and Fire were called to Water’s Hardware at 2727 Us Highway 50 in western Emporia around 1:35 pm for what was initially reported as an attempted burglary. Upon arriving at the scene, emergency crews found a man whose leg was pinned between a wall and lawn mower in a drainage ditch between the Waters and Arby’s parking lots.
According to Emporia Police at the scene, the man was mowing in the area and misjudged the slope of the area causing the mower to enter the ditch. Crews were able to extricate the man who suffered injuries to his left leg.
The individual was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health for possible treatment. His name has not been released.
Emporia Police tells KVOE News the incident was originally reported as an attempted burglary, however, that was simply a miscommunication. A fellow employee saw the accident and commandeered equipment on sight to try and extricate the individual prior to the arrival of police and EMS.
Further details are currently pending.
