Crews are making quick work of the milling part of the West Sixth Avenue repaving project.
Milling of the existing pavement has been underway from Prairie east to Chestnut, and much of that zone — all five lanes — was finished Tuesday. More work is ahead to Neosho Street as the process continues.
Eventually, all five lanes between Prairie and Neosho will be repaved with a new asphalt overlay. Work could be done by mid-October.

Traffic is being adjusted as the city of Emporia moves into the second phase of resurfacing part of West Sixth Avenue.
Crews have started milling the outside driving lane for eastbound traffic east of Prairie. This has pushed eastbound traffic to the center lane as well as the inside driving lane. Westbound traffic is currently unaffected.
Resurfacing on West Sixth between Prairie and Neosho is now underway through mid-October. Work started with new concrete in the northeast corner of Sixth and Rural. The overall project follows a significant waterline replacement project affecting West Sixth from Arundel to Woodland earlier this year.
