Emporia Fire is still investigating the cause of Wednesday’s fire at the Ashley Estates campus in northwest Emporia.
Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says firefighters were initially dispatched to 15th and Garfield for a reported structure fire. A news release late Wednesday indicates the address was 1509 West 15th, a change from an on-site and phone call confirmation of 1511 Lincoln.
Regardless of the address, Conley says the fire was contained to one of the units in the structure. One person was taken out of the building, treated on site and taken to Newman Regional Health for additional evaluation and possible treatment.
Besides Emporia Fire, crews from Americus and Olpe responded as did Emporia Police, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Lyon County Emergency Management.
9:30 am Wednesday: One person hospitalized after fire at Emporia’s Ashley Estates complex
One person was taken to Newman Regional Health after a fire in northwest Emporia on Wednesday morning.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the fire happened at the Ashley Estates complex at 1511 Lincoln. It was reported just before 8:30 am.
Conley says fire crews noticed heavy smoke coming from one of the buildings at the complex. One person was removed from 1511 Lincoln and taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The fire was handled within about 30 minutes. Firefighters are now working to determine the cause and origination point of the fire.
The fire was first reported at 15th and Garfield. Firefighters from Americus and Olpe were also toned out.

Several local and Lyon County fire departments have been called to a reported structure fire in northwest Emporia.
Firefighters from Emporia, Americus and Olpe were dispatched to the area of 15th and Garfield just before 8:30 am. Details have not been released.
