While Simmons Pet Food gets ready for its celebration concert involving Sara Evans and Ash Ruder on Thursday, it’s also gauging the situation at its future childcare facility.
Spokesperson Julie Maus says Simmons has a pair of processes underway, including a needs assessment of its new facility at the former Maynard Early Childhood Center, 19 Constitution. Simmons is getting help with its childcare partner KinderCare to gauge the needs of company employees. It’s also conducting a separate “due diligence” review of the building and property.
Maus says the reviews could take around two months to complete.
Last month, USD 253 Emporia school board members approved the sale of Maynard to Simmons for $250,000. The board decided to sell the building and property as the Jones Early Childhood Development Center at 327 South Walnut was finished as part of the nearly $80 million Building for the Future bond initiative.
Evans, meanwhile, is performing at White Auditorium at 7:30 pm Thursday, with Ruder as the opening act beginning at 6:30 pm. The concert is free, but reservations are needed by going online to www.emporiaconcert.com.
