Lyon County Commissioners will be mulling over a trio of proposals from a pair of local business owners following their recent action meeting Thursday.
The proposals come from Jarom and Melanie Smith owners of Justice Painting and Raise Your Paws in downtown Emporia. The proposals are seeking the use of space owned by the county which currently houses Lyon County Area Transportation (LCAT) buses.
Melanie Smith says the extra space is needed due to the high volume of vehicles that park in the downtown corridor and the limited amount of parking available near the businesses on a daily basis. The Smiths are proposing either sharing the space with LCAT, purchasing the space outright or making the space available to the public in general.
Commissioners have taken the proposals under consideration with no timetable given for when a decision will be rendered.
In other business, commissioners approved the payment of an invoice in the amount of $25,979 to Komtek Systems Corp. for mailing services of the county’s property tax notices. According to Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat the price was doubled due to the inaccuracies in the original notices sent out last month at no fault of the county or Komtek.
Vopat says the cost of the invoice should be reimbursed by the state, however, the county is still awaiting word on said reimbursement.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for its regular meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
