Emporia Police continues its investigation into an alleged battery incident involving at least one member of the Emporia High football team.
USD 253 Community Relations Director Lyndel Landgren says he can’t confirm unattributed reports of discipline against several players, including short-term suspensions. He also reminded residents the district can’t comment on any student discipline decisions because of student confidentiality policies.
Meanwhile, Police Capt. Ray Mattas says his department has been investigating the incident as an alleged battery. Officers are not confirming whether there is a sexual component to the alleged incident. The Emporia Police “pink sheet” released to local media indicated an alleged battery Aug. 21 involving a personal weapon, meaning a hand or a foot as opposed to other kinds of weaponry.
Reports were sent to Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman late last month. Goodman says he’s awaiting more information before he decides how to proceed with potential charges.
