Emporia Fire says the cause of a fire inside of a northern Emporia apartment complex was deemed accidental.
Fire crews were called to an apartment complex at 1100 Constitution just before 5:40 pm. According to Battalion Chief Tony Fuller, smoke was visible from the complex upon arrival and fire was found inside of unit 6.
Fuller tells KVOE News the fire was contained to the apartment’s kitchen and was declared an “accidental cooking fire.” Fire units extinguished the fire with a hose and ventilated the apartment.
Damage estimates are currently pending. The property is owned by Nathan Pettijean.

Emporia Fire is investigating after fire developed inside an apartment complex on the north side of downtown Emporia.
Fire crews were called to the complex at 1100 Constitution just before 5:40 pm. According to Battalion Chief Tony Fuller, the fire was located in apartment six, however, the cause, origination point and damages are currently pending.

Firefighters are responding to a reported fire in an apartment building near the north side of downtown Emporia.
Fire crews from Emporia, Americus and Olpe were toned out to 11th and Congress shortly after 5:30 pm once light smoke was reported. Crews evacuated the building and are currently investigating.
