Emporia’s SOS is receiving three significant grants for operations.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly says SOS will receive almost $230,000 from the state’s General Fund for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Grant Awards. The Child Advocacy Center, meanwhile, is receiving almost $46,000 and CASA of the Flint Hills is getting over $10,000.
Money from the general fund goes towards nonprofits offering counseling, shelters, safety planning, survivor advocacy, provider training and the statewide crisis line.
Funds for Children’s Advocacy Centers will help to train staff in the forensic interview process, offer advocacy services and coordinate MDTs — multi-disciplinary teams — to improve services to victims.
Funding for CASA helps to train staff and volunteers helping abused and neglected children get permanent, safe placements.
