The Salvation Army and Spartan Stop food pantries need food, and you can help meet the need at both locations.
KVOE is now taking addresses for its annual Drive for Food on Oct. 20. All non-perishable foods are needed at both locations, but both the Salvation Army and Spartan Stop are focusing on peanut butter and jelly, ramen, box or “helper” meals, shelf-stable meals, canned foods, dry cereals, macaroni and cheese, other pasta and individually-packaged snacks. The Salvation Army also needs flour, rice, beans and powdered milk.
Salvation Army Capt. Mylie Hadden says demand is up, largely due to price increases over the past year.
Emergency Services Manager Brian Shintaku says these donations are critical, especially with the holidays approaching.
To take part, call KVOE, email hartere@kvoe.com or message the Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line at 620-342-5863 with your address. KVOE staffers and volunteers will be by to pick up donations, no matter how large or small. There are also already a number of drop-off points in Emporia:
