A small gas leak at Emporia High prompted a short evacuation of the full school building Tuesday morning.
Emporia Fire responded shortly after 9:30 am. Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says issues were noted in a fixture. He says the situation was handled smoothly.
USD 253 Community Relations Director Lyndel Landgren says the school was evacuated “out of an abundance of caution.” With the incident in the new science wing, that part of the school is being kept vacant until the natural gas smell clears and then classes will resume as normal.
No injuries were reported. Students were out of school for about 30 minutes.
