The Emporia High football team had its challenge with the top-ranked team in Class 6A Manhattan on Friday night.
After the Spartans punted on their first possession, it was all Indians after that in a 58-7 victory.
Manhattan led 29-0 at the end of the first quarter and 51-0 at halftime.
The second half was played with a running clock. The Indians scored on their first possession of the second half to make it 58-0. EHS scored with 1:06 left as Cooper Rech scored on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Sheldon Stewart.
Stewart went 13-of-21 passing for 102 yards and a touchdown and an interception. He also led the Spartans on the ground with 24 yards on seven carries.
Jaxon Dial led the Spartans in receiving with six catches for 72 yards.
EHS fell to 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in the Centennial League. They’ll host Wichita East next Friday at Welch Stadium.
