A Hartford man was taken from the scene of a single vehicle accident south of Emporia early Saturday morning.
According to Lyon County Deputy Fernando Zuniga, Deputies and Emporia/Lyon County EMS were called to the intersection of Kansas Highway 99 and Road K5, roughly 9 miles south of Emporia, shortly after 4 am. Zuniga says 58-year-old Brian Zweimiller of Hartford was traveling southbound on K99 in a 2008 Chevy Cobalt when he fell asleep at the wheel.
The vehicle then veered off the roadway and struck an electrical pole. Zweimiller was transported from the scene by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with what are being called non-life-threatening injuries.
Zweimiller was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.

One person was transported following an early morning injury accident Saturday south of Emporia.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of South Kansas Highway 99 and Road K5, just over 9 miles south of Emporia, around 4:15 am. Full details are pending, however, the Emporia Fire Department tells KVOE News one patient was transported from the scene to Newman Regional Health with undisclosed injuries.
