Emporia Fire Crews responded to a minor grass fire northeast of town Monday afternoon.
Crews were called to the 1800 block of Road S just before noon. According to Emporia Fire Batallion Chief Tony Fuller, a bearing overheated on a hay baler in the area igniting a bale of hay.
The landowner kicked the bale out of the baler and in doing so set a patch of grass on fire. Crews managed to quell the flames but not before it scorched roughly three acres of grass and destroyed two bales of hay.
The baler did not suffer any significant damage and no injuries were reported. Fire crews cleared the scene shortly after 1:30 pm.
