It was a tale of two halves for the Emporia High football team Friday night against Wichita East.
The Spartans were right with the Blue Aces at halftime, but couldn’t get things going in the second half in a 54-15 loss.
Wichita East scored the first 14 points of the game before EHS got on the board with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Sheldon Stewart to Jalyn King with 11:54 to go in the second quarter.
The Blue Aces extended the lead to 22-7 and EHS got a 24-yard touchdown run by Kyle Obermeyer with 7:24 left to play before half.
After that, it was all Blue Aces, who led 30-15 at the break and scored 24 second half points.
Obermeyer led the Spartans in rushing with 37 yards on three carries. Stewart was 25 of 38 for 175 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.
Stewart’s top target was King who had seven catches for 52 yards and a score.
The Spartans are now 1-5 on the season. They’ll travel to Washburn Rural on Friday.
