Funeral services have been announced for longtime city servant Jim Pickert, who passed away Sunday at age 87.
Longtime friend Jim Kessler remembered Pickert as a person you could turn to for advice — and action.
Pickert was a realtor for nearly 60 years, keeping his license active until earlier this year. He also served the Emporia community in numerous ways, whether through time on the Emporia city and Lyon County commissions, Kansas Board of Regents; memberships with the United Way of the Flint Hills, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis and Lions clubs; work with Sacred Heart Catholic Church; and involvement with the American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lowry-Funston Post 1980.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 am Friday at Sacred Heart, with burial following at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm Thursday at Sacred Heart.
