Saturday was the final tune-up for the Emporia High volleyball team as it hosted a 10-team tournament at EHS.
The Spartans finished the tournament with a 3-3 record and finished fourth.
The Spartans went 3-1 in pool play with wins over Sumner Academy (25-8, 25-8), Lawrence (25-22, 25-15) and Shawnee Mission North (25-9, 25-19) and lost to Washburn Rural (25-19, 25-14).
In bracket play, EHS was swept by both Seaman in the semifinals (25-23, 25-23) and Bishop Carroll in the third-place match (25-18, 25-20).
Coach Ping Wang said they just ran out of steam.
EHS will enter sub-state with a 27-10 record. Sub-state brackets will be announced on Monday.
